A Pursuit to Sought-After Foundational Literacy & Numeracy: NIPUN Bharat Mission

National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy’

(NIPUN Bharat) was established by the Indian government on 5th July 2021. The mission’s goal is to ensure that every child in our country attains foundational literacy and numeracy by Grade 3 by 2026-27.

NIPUN Bharat emphasises transforming the mind-numbing, repetitive education system into a blended, enjoyable, pleasant and engaging one. The vision of the mission is to form an enabling environment that ensures the universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy, resulting in every child achieving the required foundational learning in reading, writing, and numeracy after completing Grade 3 until the year 2026-27.

Goals of NIPUN Mission

Think of the Iceberg theory, which Ernest Hemingway invented.  We all know that only a small part of an iceberg is visible above water. The tip of the iceberg is visible but much larger and hidden beneath the water. The tip of an iceberg is usually only about 1/7 or 1/8 of the iceberg’s total mass. Now imagine a child’s mind to be an iceberg. The foundational skills and better learning outcomes are part of the iceberg that floats below the water, and higher-order learning is the tip of the iceberg, which is the result of the below-water iceberg, which are foundational skills and better learning outcomes.

According to the NIPUN Bharat Mission, Grade 3 plays a vital role in a child’s life and is a turning point for it; hence, a child must have learnt to read and write the language and understand and become proficient in numeracy so that they’ll be able to understand the complex concepts after that. By Grade 3, a child must be able to:

  • Read with Comprehension
  • Basic Mathematical Operations
  • Write Feasibly
  • Learn basic life skills

Main Developmental Goals

The primary purpose of the NIPUN Mission is to foster an enabling, positive environment that will result in efficient learning of foundational literacy and numeracy skills by the completion of their third grade in school. The three most vital primary developmental goals of the NIPUN Mission are:

  • Learners must become effective communicators
  • Learners are to maintain good health and well-being
  • Learners should become evolved youngsters and connect with their environment

Objectives of the NIPUN Mission

The programme will be executed in mission mode, using and strengthening established structures. The prominent objectives of the NIPUN Mission are:

  • Inclusive Classroom Fostering Learning-By-Doing
  • Perpetual Capacity Building Of Teachers
  • Use Of Mother Tongue In Instruction
  • Assessment For Learning Through Continuous Assessments.
  • Motivating Children To Become Independent Learners.
  • Sharpingnumeracy And Spatial Understanding Skills Of Children.

Introduction to a Learning Management System and its Features

A (Learning Management System) is a digital platform that concentrates on streamlining the process of administering, delivering, and monitoring educational content and training programmes. Some of the important features of an LMS are:

  • Streamlined Course Management
  • Blended Learning
  • Support For Mobile Learning
  • Easy Leaning Content Creation and Delivery
  • Tracking And Analysing Students Data
  • Enhanced Communication Between Instructor And Learner
  • Accessible Learning
  • Time and Cost-effective

How Integration to an LMS will result in the achievement of attaining the NIPUN Mission

When we include an LMS in the teaching-learning process, it helps achieve the goals of the NIPUN Mission faster. Here’s how:

  • Centralised Learning: An LMS creates a single platform where all educational content and training materials for the NIPUN Bharat Mission are stored; therefore, these resources become easily accessible to learners
  • Efficient Student Tracking and Reporting: An LMS makes tracking students’ progress effortless, and learners can take remedial measures quickly.
  • Flexible Teaching-Learning: An LMS proves useful not only for teachers but also for learners. LMS helps educators teach from any place, and learners learn anytime and from any place.
  • Learning as per Individual Needs: Every learner can learn according to his or her own learning style or speed. This is one of the best features of this tool. Learners can customise their learning according to their individual needs.
  • Enhanced Learner Engagement: Many enjoyable features built into an LMS, such as fun quizzes, multimedia, stories, and songs based on educational material, prove adept at enhancing learners’ engagement in class and making learning easy. This pattern of learning reduces students’ burden and helps them learn language and solve numerical problems easily.

And many more benefits!

Conclusion

Attaining the goals of the NIPUN Bharat Mission becomes feasible with the help of a Learning Management System. An LMS makes it easier to deliver high-quality language and numeracy skills to students and tracks their progress. Integrating an LMS in the teaching-learning process will lead to students’ holistic development, resulting in effortlessly achieving NIPUN Bharat’s Mission goal
