How To Tell If Someone Is Ignoring You On Facebook Messenger?

Facebook is a vibrant platform where you can share your photos, updates, and more with friends. Its popularity soared as people discovered how effortlessly it facilitates connections with friends. From updating statuses to chatting on Messenger, staying in touch has never been easier, thanks to Facebook.
Engaging in conversations and keeping in touch with friends on Facebook is intriguing. However, there are times when we suspect that someone may be ignoring our messages on Facebook Messenger. But are they truly ignoring us?
In this post, I’ll guide you on how to determine if someone is ignoring you on Facebook Messenger, empowering you to respond wisely and tactfully in the future.
How To Tell If Someone Is Ignoring You On Facebook Messenger on the App?
It’s not uncommon to send messages to someone repeatedly, only for them not to respond, even though the messages have been delivered. When confronted, they often offer excuses like “oh, I had several tabs open on my system, so I didn’t notice your message, and I ended up missing it.”
But is this excuse always true? Maybe, maybe not.
Understanding whether someone is ignoring you on Facebook Messenger becomes important if you’re experiencing this issue repeatedly. I’ve encountered this problem with some of my close friends, which is why I decided to share this article with you. It will help you determine if you’re being ignored.
Have you been left on ‘Seen’?
If you’ve sent a message to someone on Facebook and they’ve seen it but chosen not to respond, you can easily tell. When a message has been delivered and read but not replied to, you’ll see their profile picture thumbnail right next to the message.
In the image provided, you can see that the user has read your message as their Display Picture is visible next to it, yet they haven’t replied.
So, the first way to know if someone is ignoring you is by checking if the message you sent has been seen. If it has, the user’s profile image will be displayed next to the text, as shown in the screenshot above.
How to Determine If Someone Hasn’t Read Your Message but Is Still Active on Messenger?
If you’re messaging a friend on Facebook Messenger and they haven’t read your message despite it being delivered, it will appear with a single tick inside a greyish circle. When you click on the message, it will show as delivered.
In the provided image, you can see that the message was delivered some time ago, indicated by the tick. Another thing to note is the “Active X Hours Ago” status. In the image, it’s evident that the user was active 2 hours ago but hasn’t read the message. This clearly indicates that the friend is choosing to ignore your messages while still being active on Facebook.
In this scenario, the user may choose not to open your message to avoid alerting you that they’ve seen it. Instead, they remain inactive to give the impression that they haven’t read it. However, by checking their active status, you can discern that they’re intentionally ignoring you.
As seen in the screenshot above, the message I sent was delivered a day ago but hasn’t been read, yet the user was active a few hours ago today. This strongly suggests that they’re deliberately ignoring me.
How To Tell If Someone Is Ignoring You On Facebook Messenger On PC?
Similar to the mobile app, you can also determine if someone is ignoring you on a PC. If you see the photo thumbnail of your friend next to the text, it indicates that they’ve read your message but have chosen not to reply, opting to ignore it.
What Does It Mean If The Message Just Shows ‘Sent’?
If you notice a plain tick on your message that persists for an extended period, it likely means that the message is in the “message requests” section of Facebook Messenger.
When the recipient opens their message request folder and views your message, you will see a solid tick next to it. Hovering over this tick will display the status as “delivered.” In the screenshot provided, the plain tick indicates that the message is sent, while the solid tick, as shown below, signifies that it is delivered.
To access the Message Request folder, the user should navigate to their Facebook Profile, click on the Messenger Icon, then select the Three Dot menu, and finally choose Message requests, as illustrated in the screenshot below:
How To Tell If Someone Is Ignoring You on Facebook Messenger Through Their Active Status
Many individuals have their active status displayed on Facebook Messenger. This feature indicates whether your friend is currently active on Messenger or when they were last active. If you notice that your friend was online recently according to their active status, despite having sent a message earlier, it suggests that they may have intentionally ignored your messages.
Mute Feature – The Tool Which Helps You Ignore Messages
Facebook provides a convenient option to mute individuals on Facebook Messenger, allowing users to ignore messages from specific friends. When this feature is activated for a friend, notifications for their messages are suppressed. Essentially, muting a friend prevents notifications from appearing for messages sent by that individual.
It’s also possible that your Facebook friend has muted your conversation. However, there’s no direct way for you to confirm this.
When you mute someone on Facebook Messenger, you still receive their messages, but no notifications are displayed. You can view these messages when you open your inbox.
In a nutshell,
These are some of the ways to determine if someone is ignoring you on Facebook Messenger. This scenario is quite common, and paying attention to their last seen and active status can often indicate if your Facebook friends are ignoring you.
